Gippsland Sustainability Project
The Gippsland Sustainability Project involves community members in sustainable behaviours in a positive and empowering way.
The exciting three-year Gippsland Sustainability Project developed within the City of LaTrobe an inclusive model for community sustainability and leadership that can be replicated by councils and communities anywhere in Australia.
The project involved:
- Delivering the Sustainable Schools Program to a cluster of five schools in the City of LaTrobe.
- Training local educators in Sustainable Schools.
- Energy, water and waste audits for participating schools to identify areas of resource and money savings through green retrofitting.
- Grants for sustainability projects and low interest loans for retrofitting for participating schools.
- Involving the families of the participating sustainable schools in sustainability and monitoring activities.
- Evaluating the changes in water, electricity and gas consumption; waste and recyclables production and Triple Bottom Line benefits in the participating schools, families and the community of the City of LaTrobe
