Waste Wise and Sustainable Schools Awards
Gould Group provided full event management services for the Sustainability Victoria Waste Wise and Sustainable Schools Awards from 1999 to 2005, producing a consistently high quality event each year.
These Awards recognise and reward the efforts and achievements of Victorian primary and secondary schools, both government and non-government, for their outstanding waste, litter and sustainability education achievements.
Working within a tight budget, Gould Group has consistently secured:
- Ministerial and VIP attendance to present awards. The 2005 awards were presented by the Honourable, John Thwaites, MP, Minister for Environment, Water and Victorian Communities, and Ms Carolyn Lloyd of Sustainability Victoria;
- Sponsorships for the event and its multiple award categories;
- Quality venues including: the National Gallery of Victoria, Parliament House, Victoria, and the Melbourne Aquarium;
- Quality media coverage
- High profile MCs including Channel 7 personality and weatherman, David Brown;
- Excellent attendance by students and teachers who delight in their recognition at such a prestigious event;
- An increasing number of quality entries. In 2005 the number of schools entering almost doubled, with over 30 new schools participating; and
- Over 40 sponsor organisations from across Victoria, including metropolitan and regional councils, and organisations from the plastics and mining industries.

Victorian Schools’ Gardens Awards
Gould Group managed the Victorian Schools’ Gardens Awards for the Victorian Department of Education from 2003-2005, introducing online entry and internet support resources, as well as new sponsorship from local councils and Australia Post and achieving quality media coverage.
Operating since 1977, these awards acknowledge the achievements of Victorian schools in improving their school grounds through the involvement and participation of their school community. This award is a firm favourite with schools, attracting approximately 200 participants annually.
A highlight is a visit by the state judging panel to all regional winners by helicopter. The awards culminate in a fun-filled activity and presentation day at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Melbourne in early December.
Schools Low Energy Week Challenge
Gould Group ran the Schools Low Energy Week Challenge on behalf of the Sustainable Energy Authority Victoria in 2000. This competition was the first of its kind in Australia. Promoting reduced resource use, it raised awareness and educated schools and their communities about sustainable behaviours. Finalist schools achieved an average of 15% reduction in energy usage.
Schools Water Savers Week Challenge
Gould Group ran the 2001 and 2002 Schools Water Savers Week Challenges on behalf of Melbourne Water and the metro water retailers. This event marked the first joint schools education project by the Melbourne metropolitan water retailers.
