| Weeds
are plants growing in the wrong place. They replace native plants, causing
the loss of habitat and food for native animals. They may be introduced
from overseas or even from another part of Australia. Wind, water and
animals disperse weeds. Most of the weeds are from countries that have
similar weather to Australia e.g. South Africa. They also have no natural
predators or disease, which is why they spread so quickly. People can
also spread weeds by dumping garden clippings, or by seeds attached to
shoes, tools and vehicles. |
