COASTAL WEBCARE
Cape Ivy
Cape ivy is yet another South African plant that has 'escaped' from gardens into natural bushland. It is capable of smothering large areas of dune scrub and coastal forest as seen here.
Watsonia
Arriving from South Africa as a garden plant, watsonia has become a very serious weed. It has spread along roadsides and on to coastal bushland, growing over and smothering native vegetation on its way. It is often accidentally transferred to new areas by earth moving equipment.
Blue Periwinkle
Although blue periwinkle may look like a beautiful plant it is a serious threat to native plants. It forms a thick ground cover capable of covering hundreds of square metres, smothering native plants and prevents new plants from growing.
